Majestic Hotel & Spa, the arts hotel.

The painter Joan Miró was a historic guest of the Majestic, also known as “the arts hotel”, due to its tight association with the fine arts since its inception.

This fame was further reinforced in 1996 and 1997 when the hotel brought in a contemporary art exposition called New Art, which included renowned participating galleries such as those of Alcolea, Joan Prats and Juana de Aizpuru. This was as cutting-edge an initiative as is video art, and as a result of the previous initiative, the Soldevila family acquired numerous pieces which increased the art collection that they have been amassing over the years. Today, more than a thousand notable paintings, sculptures and other graphic pieces are distributed throughout the hotel. The collection, which continues to grow, includes work by influential artists such as Tápies, Chillida, Saura, Guinovart, Ráfols Casamada and Gerardo Rueda. Representing the 80's, still other artists include Llimós, Lluís Lleó, Miguel Ángel Campano, Alfonso Alzadora, Jaime Plensa and Ferran García Sevilla. And the collection also boasts currently relevant authors like José María Sicilia, the most sought-after Spanish painter at present, Miquel Barceló, as well as interesting series of engravings by Anish Kapoor, Richard Long and Richard Deacon.
