Art & Culture at Balmes Residence

Balmes Residence, beautifully framed in its modernist building constructed at the beginning of the twentieth century in the midst of Barcelona's Eixample neighbourhood, is a new concept within the boutique-hotel movement that Derby Hotels Collection has renovated whilst respecting its singularity and all of its art-nouveau elements.

The interiors of Balmes Residence are finished with spectacular mouldings and frescos decorate the rooms' high ceilings. The floors are colorist mosaics, traditional “trencadissos” typical of Catalan modernist architecture from the beginning of the twentieth century. The original glasswork from the same period, with religious motifs, takes guests back in time to the height of the age of the Catalan industrial bourgeoisie.
